Position Summary:

The Water and Environmental Research Center (WERC) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) has an open position for research faculty in hydrology. This is a full-time, 9/12 month, research faculty (non-tenure track) position (90-95% research/5-10% service). The successful applicant will be expected to develop a regionally or nationally-recognized research program in hydrology. Appointments will generally be made at the assistant research professor level, though higher ranks will be considered. We are particularly interested in faculty with backgrounds in one or more of the following areas: remote sensing, large scale modeling, permafrost hydrology, surface/groundwater interaction, snow/ice/glacial hydrology that compliments existing expertise, or a general background in related fields. Ideally, this researcher will combine field observations/measurements with advanced techniques in hydrological modeling and/or remote sensing. Duties:

Research Develop an independent research program related to one of the topics listed above. Secure extramural funding and publish in refereed journals. Work collaboratively with other University faculty/personnel, government agencies, non-government organizations, and citizen groups.

Service: Serve the WERC, the University and professional communities through appropriate activities.

Knowledge, skills, abilities: Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Able to work in a multidisciplinary environment. Contribute to growth in WERC’s hydrology program, including advising graduate students.

Preferred experience & education: Experience working with external public constituencies or communities is a plus. The ability to acquire funding from external sources is essential.

Required experience & education: PhD required and candidates with existing or identified external funding sources.

Salary information: This is a full-time, 9-month, term faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. Salary will be based upon the level of academic preparation and experience.
